DAY TRIP TO ORANGE GARDENS 8TH APRIL

It was beautiful weather for our day trip to Orange gardens.   We saw five amazing gardens ranging from small town house gardens to one of six acres.   Thank you very much to the owners for allowing us to visit. ( Rose & Bart Westgeest, Sally Larance, Dulcie & Alan Griffith, Bob & Liz Smith and Di & Russell Turner).  They were stunning!   Thanks you also to Michael and the staff at “Patmos Garden Cafe”  for the delicious lunch and Bill Berry for getting us to and from Orange.

GARDEN CLUBS OF AUSTRALIA AWARDS

At the recent Garden Clubs of Australia AGM, two of our members received awards.  Our President Karen Granger received the Gwenda Hansford Award for outstanding service by a member of an affiliated club to the environment.  Past President Peter Varman received the Doris Killian Award for outstanding service by an individual to the community.  Congratulations to Karen and Peter!

TRIP TO ANL SITE, FOREST REEFS AND MILLTHORPE

10th of September trip.   Not wonderful weather and wet under foot but still a very interesting and enjoyable day.  First stop was the ANL Site at Browns Creek.   Rob from ANL gave us a very informative talk about their operation.  Then it was on to Forest Reefs to visit a lovely garden.  At one stage though we all thought we might have to push the bus.  After a lunch break in Millthorpe it was off to Millthorpe Nursery.  It is a lovely nursery and private garden.  The bus was a bit heavier on the way home with all our purchases.

SEPTEMBER 4TH MEETING

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE MEETING SCHEDULED FOR THE 4TH OF SEPTEMBER HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO THE INCLEMENT WEATHER.   OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE ON THE 2ND OF OCTOBER.

Trip to Cairns

20 members enjoyed a wonderful week in Cairns from the 9th to 16th of August.   So many highlights!  For many it would have been the visit to The Botanical Ark where Alan and Susan Carle have converted an old cattle station into a tropical rainforest.  They have collected seeds from rainforests all over the world.  At Rainforest Heart Orchard we tasted some interesting fruits and Davidson Plum Tea which has three times the antioxidents as blueberries.  Thank you to Matt Mitchley and Lorraine and Neil Forgie who generously allowed us to visit their lovely homes and gardens.  Not to mention all the amazing lunches, morning and afternoon teas!  Thank you Ted and Coral for organising such a great trip.

Our last Winter Meeting.

Our August meeting was our last one indoors for a while.  John and Ruth Allen were the guest speakers sharing their extensive knowledge of Orchids.

The next meeting of Bathurst Gardeners’ Club will be on Sunday the 7th of March, 2pm at 265 Bloomhill Road O’Connell.  As numbers are limited due to Covid restrictions it is essential that you contact the Secretary on 04 31 29 4446  if you wish to attend.
